JEWELLERY CARE

We all need a little love every now and then, you're jewellery is no exception.

Everyday care

Metal and stones are tough, but they aren't indestructible, so it's best to take care of them.

Some chemicals like perfumes, make up, chlorine and cleaning products can damage the finish on your jewellery. It's best to put your jewellery on as the last step in your routine and to take it off when doing the dishes, swimming, showering, working out etc.

This will ensure it keeps it's sparkle for the long run.

Clean your jewellery

The best way to clean your jewellery - and the method I use in the workshop - is warm soapy water and a soft toothbrush.

Let your piece soak for a few minutes in warm water with a *little* dish washing detergent and then give it a light scrub with a toothbrush - particularly behind the stones.
Do not use his method for pieces with opals.

Dry it off with a soft towel or polishing cloth.

Caring for your opal

Ethiopian opals are very porous and can change colour when submerged in water.
ALWAYS take off your opal ring when washing your hands, using hand creams, hand sanitisers or any chemicals.

If your opal has changed colour, it's likely because it has absorbed water. Place it somewhere dry and out of direct sunlight to dry out for a while and it should return to normal.
